The Journeys ... Next

Those who have checked this page once in a while, might have seen, that it took me some energy to decide where I want to go next. One thing is pretty clear by now, I'll attend university in Perth, Australia by March 2005. After finishing Uni in March 2006, there I want to go travelling again. This is the idea, I have in my head:

Tazmania, PNG, Indonesia, Philippines
As my course finishes in March 2006, I will still have some spare time on my visa for Australia. Therefore, before I leave the country, I intend to fly to Tazmania, travel there for a while, head up the East Coast to Darwin and then head over to Papua New Guinea. This is one of those 'last frontiers' countries. I would like to cross into Indonesia from PNG - which is not all that easy to achieve, as I have heard. Anyhow, that is the plan. After travelling in Indonesia for some time, I might go back to the Philies from where I might take a chance and try to find work in China. But this is still a long, long time into the future. We shall see, what will happen...

Even without these half-way tangible plans, there are some places I want to see sooner or later.

Africa:
I'd like to buy a Land Rover and then travel across Africa with a couple of friends for about a year. As I am not really a person who is able to hang out with others for a such a long time, I think I'd leave the groupe once in a while to hitchhike around or use the means of public transportation.

Tierra del Fuego:
I intended to go all the way down south, when I was in Chile. The problem was, that the sea route was closed due to icebergs - and the detour through Argentina would have taken too much time at that point.

Easter Island:
For some reason these Islands are stuck in my head. Somewhen I will want to see those stone monuments.

Central to South America:
I always wanted to see the former kindoms of the Aztecs and the Mayas. Tical still bears a mystic heritage - in my ears at least. As I have friends in the USA and in Cuba, it would be nice to start the trip there and meet up with them. After this I'd head down from Mexico to Columbia. It would be tempting to head east from there.

Cuba
I have some friends on Cuba - so this might be the best way to explore this country, without the usual rip-off, which many travellers experience on the isle.

In the past couple of months we have cycled over 1'700 kilometers in the flat parts of China: from Vietnam we were heading east to Hong Kong. From there we took a train to Zhengzhou in Henan Province. Now we are heading west. We have now left the flats behind and have reached Gansu Province. From now it's all uphill!
We have created a video about the first part of riding in China. Watch it on our YouTube Channel or directly on the video page of my website.
