Information ... About me

Hello fellow travellers;

Picture of Adrian Wagner

So, I'm Adrian. I was born in Switzerland in '75 and lived most of my life in this country. After school I worked for a large Swiss bank—what a stereotype. Well, after a while I got bored of the 08-17 schematized life—and of juggling numbers. Hence, I quit my job to do something new. That was in 1997.

Of course I had travelled before then. Switzerland being in the midst of Europe made it easy to see the surrounding Germany, France, Italy and Austria. I took boat trips in Ireland and interrailed through Europe. Nevertheless, when I started my RWT in 1997, it was my first time away from Europe. I flew from Zurich to Singapore on my own and was pretty excited. That's how it all began. I travelled for one year and vistited China, Japan, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, the whole southern cone of South America and the USA.

That was it, ever since I've become another 'travel addict'. Whenever I can manage, I leave and roam around. I almost always travel on my own and independent—meaning with my backback, no reservations whatsoever and usually only with a slight idea of places to visit in a country. I think I'd have a hard time sitting in a closed hotel complex by the pool while waiting for somebody to create a diversion. Since I returned from my initial RWT, I've been back to the USA, and also Morrocco, Kenya, the Philippines and Turkey. Of course, I travelled in Europe again (France, Spain, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece and Italy).

I recently travelled through Russia for 3 months then down through Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan to India. From there I flew to Thailand and travelled down through Malaysia to Singapore. Currently, I am finishing my studies in Perth, Australia, where I will be staying until April 2006. After this, I will hopefully be on the road again.

In the past couple of months we have cycled over 1'700 kilometers in the flat parts of China: from Vietnam we were heading east to Hong Kong. From there we took a train to Zhengzhou in Henan Province. Now we are heading west. We have now left the flats behind and have reached Gansu Province. From now it's all uphill!
We have created a video about the first part of riding in China. Watch it on our YouTube Channel or directly on the video page of my website.
