Gallery ... An overview

In this chapter you will find pictures of places from all around the world. Since 1997 I have altogether spent more than two years abroad. Of course I prefere long trips, but unfortunately this is not always possible. But one month is the shortest tirp that I take. The reason for this is, that I usually need time to wind down from domestic life. The first days, if not weeks are often spent in a sort of forced enjoyment. It is only after a certain time of freedom, that we can enjoy it unconditionally. Of course, the longer the trip, the more relaxed it becomes. After 6 month on the road, the mind becomes detached from most western problems and ideas. This is the point where situations and experiences become most powerful and creative. This is what I strive for.

Below is a interactive Google Map of most destinations I have visted since 1997. Double-click (or use the zoom buttons on the left) to zoom into locations. The deeper you zoom, the more locations appear. Markers (not the flags) are also clickable and will reveal links to the appropriate Image Gallery or Trip Log. Many also have pictures associated to them. Have fun.

Meanwhile I've visited all continents except Antarctica. I doubt that I will ever get there. Not because it wouldn't appeal to me to make the trip. I just think it would be WAY to cold for me. I am a child of sunshine. When I talk to people who don't have much travel experience there is always one question: What place did you like most? This question cannot be answered. It depends on too many details. In what mood do you arrive in a place;, what is going on at that certain place in that moment; who you meet and where you stay. Even the weather has an infulence on our subjective perception.
So much can be said — the more I travel, the more I prefer places with fewer tourists. From this point of view, Africa is probably the most interesting spot in the world. And it is beautiful, too.

In the past couple of months we have cycled over 1'700 kilometers in the flat parts of China: from Vietnam we were heading east to Hong Kong. From there we took a train to Zhengzhou in Henan Province. Now we are heading west. We have now left the flats behind and have reached Gansu Province. From now it's all uphill!
We have created a video about the first part of riding in China. Watch it on our YouTube Channel or directly on the video page of my website.
